  Notes	Emeline attended Prince of Wales College and obtained her School License #2125 from the Board of Education of PEI, Rank Second Class, July 2, 1897 "being the sixty-first year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria." (She was not able to teach however until she was 18 years old.) She taught at Hopedale, Hazelgrove (Ray Ferris, Laurie Bertram & Harry Bowman were three of her students), and in 1900 she taught in Fredericton Hall as there was no school building. The following note appeared in the newspaper in c. 1903: "The scholars of Hazel Grove school recently gave their teacher, Miss Ackland, a very pleasant surprise. On the morning of the re-opening of the school after the Christmas holidays they presented her with a beautiful parlor lamp and a suitable address." (Dad still has the lamp in the living room now converted to electricity. A similar lamp in a bedroom was a wedding gift to his mother.) Grammy Stevenson left a deep and lasting impression on my life by always telling us Bible stories as children. It was she who introduced me to the stories of David and Goliath and Jonathan. In her last months she would have my brother Wesley or I read to her from her Bible each day.
