    Notes
    • In the Census of 1841, we find the following information about John Stevenson, weaver, living at Lot 23 [New Glasgow]. There were 7 persons in total living on 100 acres of Leasehold land for which they paid rent in Sterling of five pounds; 4 wewere natives of Scotland who had paid their own passage and 3 were born in PEI. They had 2 horses, 20 sheep, 9 cattle and 6 hogs and produced 350 bushels of potatoes, 100 bushels of oats, and 40 bushels of wheat. As to religion, it is interesting to note they were not listed among the Baptists but 6 as "any other denomination." Besides the parents, there were 3 males and 1 female between the ages of 16 to 45 and one female under the age of 16 years. (If you compare the Census with the family members, there must have been an adult male living with the family who was not their son. This could also account for the difference of one less in reporting their religion.)

The following inscription was found on the tombstone in the New Glasgow, PEI Cemetery not far from the site where the settlers arrived in 1820.
"Elder John Stevenson died May 9, 1862 Age 84
Margaret Nisbet his beloved wife died July 19, 1852 Age 71

They were natives of Scotland and emigrated to this island and settled in New Glasgow in May 1820. After which he began to teach the people the word of God and preach the gospel which resulted in turning many precious souls to the Saviour and the foundation of the Church of Christ in this place in which he was a faithful and efficient Elder from 1837 until full of days and gradually ripening for the change he was peacefully called to be with Christ.

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them."
