    Notes
    • Deane and Jean’s daughter, Bernetta, shares some thoughts:

My memories of Dad are too numerous to list. However, some things that stand out are: his love for his family, his love of music - especially hymn singing, his love for farming - planting those crops (mostly potatoes) and watching them grow, and the enjoyment he received from telling stories (some of which we heard many times over).

Mom is known for always thinking of others and putting their needs ahead of her own. Over the years she has faithfully visited family members who were sick, sent cards, and made phone calls to check up on them. Often phone calls have been made to congratulate someone on their accomplishments, to wish them a happy birthday or just keep in touch. Even though she has a large family, she seldom misses a birthday. She always writes a little note in the cards - giving them that personal touch. Some older grandchildren have opened their cards and found their birth announcement that she’s clipped from the newspaper when they were born. With some help from Natalie, she still makes special birthday cakes for many people.

2020 update – Jean passed away in 2007.

From Carole (Hallett) Craswell – A documentary was done in 1963 by the National Film Board of Canada called “3 Farmers”. Deane and Jean’s family and farm were featured as one of the three. The DVD can still be purchased from the NFB; a great keepsake for family members. [4]
